I spent my break in Maryland, where there wasn’t a snowflake to be seen. The leaves were still present on the ground, and I had a blast riding bikes with my nieces and nephews. Growing up on the East Coast, I always dreamed of snow days! It didn’t take much snow for school to be cancelled. Even a dusting of snow would guarantee a 2-hour delay if not a complete cancellation! Things are very different here in Lombard!
Since this is my last winter in Illinois, I am trying to embrace the cold and the snow! Instead of cringing when I drove back from Maryland after break, I smiled when I started to see the snow coming West. Campus really is beautiful when it is covered in snow. Unfortunately, the camera on my phone does not do it justice! Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the AMAZING job our maintenance crew does, not just in the snow, but year-round! They manage to keep the sidewalks, roads, and parking lots cleared and safe in the winter, while keeping the grass green, and flowers bloomed the rest of the year. I will definitely miss walking around this campus when I graduate from the ND program in August!
A crazy thing actually happened on campus last week when a car sped into a tree, knocking it over and dragging it with the car! Rumor going around campus was that it was actually a police chase, and that the ‘suspect’ driving the car actually got out of the car and began running on foot before being caught. I don’t know about all of that, but I do know there was some police activity. For a campus as quiet as ours, it caused a lot of hustle and bustle that morning! Again, my phone doesn’t really do it justice, but you can see the tree on the ground. To praise our maintenance crew again, within 24 hours, it was all cleaned up and we could barely tell that a tree had ever been there!
