This was my second 4th of July holiday living in Illinois, and while I hope I make it out to Navy Pier for Fire Works before I leave, I have a great view of the fireworks from my on-campus apartment. I live in Lincoln Hall, and I can literally see three firework shows from the comfort of my air-conditioned, mosquito-free, comfy couch!

I tried to take pictures of some of the fireworks, but couldn’t get a great shot. Here is the best I could do, this was one of the fireworks displays that I could see from my apartment. These were directly behind Janse Hall (one of the main academic buildings on campus). Lilly and I really enjoyed a day off from school.

In one of our classes, we learned a treatment method for sinusitis. It involves sticking a long cotton swab with essential oils on it, into a person’s sinuses. It is very uncomfortable, but not painful necessarily. Here is my friend Nicole practicing her technique on my friend Miko. His face shows the perfect reaction…definitely not comfortable, but it feels great afterwards.

We also learned how to do ear lavage, which was awesome! It is such a weird sensation having warm water flushed through your ear. I had both my ears done, and although my ears were pretty clean already, it feels really good to have them all emptied out!

My name is Belinda, but I prefer to go by Lindy. I am a second year Naturopathic Medical student at National University of Health Sciences. I’m originally from Maryland and will always consider it to be my home. I live on campus, in the Lincoln building with my dog, Lilly. I love the sport of triathlon and will totally geek out if anyone wants to talk bikes or racing with me! I’m looking forward to blogging about study tips, ways to have fun on campus, and all the details of a full-time medical student. I love talking with people, so if you have any questions please email me at belindasmith@student.nuhs.edu.
