Drumming Circle & 10th Tri Dinner

On Thursdays after clinic, one of my classmates organizes a drumming circle. Those who are interested participate by drumming or using maracas to surround a person in the middle of the circle. The tradition is rooted in Native American culture, and the beat and vibration of the drums feel very cleansing! It’s nice that some students take the initiative to share their passions and healing techniques.

About a week and a half ago, all the 10th trimester ND students went on our 10th tri dinner with Dr. Louise Edwards. “Dr. Lou” is an elder in the naturopathic profession, and she was the very first professor we met on Monday morning of 1st trimester in the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine class. The foundation was laid strong, and repeated over and over in all of the classes she taught, and I’m forever grateful to be truly rooted in the naturopathic principles and philosophy. Treating patients with these two aspects in mind will lead to a successful practice, and patients will improve.

After dinner with Dr. Lou, it really feels like August will be here in a flash. I’m in the home stretch, counting down to graduation…Forty-six days from writing this post. My plans post-graduation are starting to line up, and I’m excited to share my next step with you in a future blog post once things are solidified!

I'm a naturopathic medical student at NUHS. I started the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Program in January 2014. I was born and raised in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a beautiful town on Lake Michigan. My experiences interpreting (Spanish to English) in nearly all medical specialties solidified my decision to study naturopathic medicine, as I saw a deep need for treating the body as a whole, getting to the root causes of symptoms, and using minimally invasive low-cost therapies to restore health.
