The Blur

by Mar 24, 2018

Busy, busy, busy. There has been so much going on that time has become a very abstract thing. Some weeks are like that; it’s easy for it to become that way when there is so much going on. I get to the point where I find myself asking, What day is this? Wondering, is it really only Tuesday? Did I eat lunch? I like to refer to this feeling as being caught up in “the blur” and when the lines between tasks to be completed start to become fuzzy.

Given the relatively carefree way that I lived life before becoming a student, it’s strange to think that I have become one of those “calendar people”.  You know them, they are the people who when you ask them any question they respond with, “Well, I have to check my calendar.”

Despite my initial aversion to doing this, writing things down helps so much. It gets them out of your head where they can be forgotten or take up the valuable space that could be better used thinking of other things, and when you are caught up in “the blur”, having this place where everything is all laid out for you in a simple concrete way is so comforting.

This upcoming week looks like it will be about as crazy as the last one was. It contains my clinic entrance exams, which I am both excited and terrified of at the same time. It means that I will be able to see my own patients this summer, and I can hardly wait – but more on that next week, take care ‘til then readers!
