I find that there’s always a mental lag when I return from break. For the first week or two of each new trimester, I often find myself clinging to the last vestiges of the comfortable laziness that always seems to find me in the last few days of vacation.

A brilliant neurologist, Dr. Humphreys utilizes his unique sense of quick-witted humor, to capture the attention necessary to answer his precise questioning. It’s only been a year since I took Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology, but he has a way of making it seem a lot longer. I can tell I’m going to have to bust out my “neuro cliff notes;” I have a fair amount of brushing up to do. Regardless, I’m looking forward to learning the finer points of neurological testing from him in Evaluation and Management of the Cervical Spine this trimester!

And what would a first week be without Dr. Marc McRae transfusing knowledge directly into your brain, utilizing volume as a vector while you Google the alphabet soup after his name to refresh yourself on all his credentials. Needless to say, he brings even more life to captivating subjects such as Nutritional Biochemistry II and Medical Genomics. Pointless to say, between McRae’s and Humphrey’s classes, in addition to all the others, the end of the first week often find students quite tuckered out.

Staying true to form, my friends and I found ourselves, on Friday night, making a very amateur mistake: we planned a long night of festivities. We kicked the evening off, at the Beer House in Lombard, with a small sampling flight of beer from their formidable selection. Then it was off to Top Golf in Naperville for a friendly competition of distance and accuracy in their target-centered driving range. Finishing our game up at 6:00 pm, we found ourselves exhausted from the week. We all graciously accepted each other’s excuses and turned in.
