Where Did Tri 9 Go???

I’m not sure if all you readers feel the same, but with COVID, schedule changes, and the business of clinic life, time has certainly flown by during this summer trimester. I cannot believe that it is already week 14 of my 9th trimester. With only one more trimester to go, I can safely say I am very excited to graduate and move on to the next steps, but it will be bittersweet transitioning my patients to the next group of interns.

Clinic life is simply too much fun. I absolutely LOVE coming to clinic every single day and figuring out the puzzle pieces of treatment that make the difference in my patient’s presentation and care. The feeling of having a patient show immense improvement from the care you provide is an incredible feeling and I look forward to it every day.

Clinic Crew_2

Over the last month I have been lucky enough to be a part of the NUHS Veteran’s Clinic – a free acupuncture clinic that we provide to veterans within the community on Fridays. Through this opportunity I have learned tongue and pulse diagnosis (a means of using the feel of a pulse and the appearance of the tongue to diagnose the patient with a traditional Chinese medicine complaint) and been able to integrate it into my acupuncture care. I have very much enjoyed working with our acupuncture professor and my fellow intern to reinvigorate this clinic now that we have returned after closing down for COVID-19.

Beach Crew

Outside of clinic, things have been pretty busy. I helped to coordinate a beach cleanup in partnership with the Gulfport Neighborhood Association in order to give our students a safe and socially distant community service opportunity. I was pleased to have a good turnout and we were able to clean up a large area around the Gulfport Beach Complex and really help out their neighborhood association.

In addition, I have been studying for extra board exams, working extensively with the ACA Sports Council, and trying to find time for myself. Thankfully, this weekend I was able to set aside an evening and prepare a delicious seafood meal for my girlfriend and me. It was a much-needed break from reality and we both thoroughly enjoyed the feast we cooked up.

Well, with it being the end of the trimester you readers will not hear from me for a couple of weeks. Keep an eye out for the next post soon after Labor Day. And as always, if you have any questions, please email me at addisonozakyol@student.nuhs.edu.
