Well here we are! We made it through (almost) yet another trimester! Tri 5 certainly had its challenges. With my acupuncture elective course I ended up completing about 33 credit hours this trimester. It was a whole lot of work, but I learned a ton of techniques and treatment protocols that I can one day apply to my practice.

I particularly enjoyed my acupuncture course this trimester. The NUHS Post-grad department offers a 100-hour acupuncture licensure course, which is the minimum requirement to practice in just about half of the United States with our DC licenses. The class is late on Monday nights and first thing Saturday mornings, so it certainly is a time commitment, but I highly recommend the experience. We covered a lot of the traditional history and theories of acupuncture, as well as safety protocols for practice. We also needled a series of different channels including the lungs, large intestine, stomach, spleen, and heart as well as needled special points or channels across the body and on the ear.

Ears to You-1

Before this course I had neither received acupuncture, nor did I know anything about it. I learned so much and have enjoyed our practice in labs to the point of even needling myself to keep up with the material. I have found that my muscle and joint soreness after training have decreased, and since practicing acupuncture points through the class, my overall physical health has seen moderate improvements as well. I cannot wait to bring this therapeutic benefit to my own patients one day!

This is the last blog post you will see from me until the summer! I will be enjoying my two week trimester break at home in Albuquerque with my family, and I look forward to being able to share the highlights when school starts back up.
