It’s almost finals week! That means it’s just about time to hunker down in the corner of my couch reviewing everything from the last 12 weeks. But before that, the lack of exams and projects this week opened up a couple of opportunities to enjoy myself.

At the Beach

Over the last week and a half, the ChiroGames Club had a couple of events that I helped coordinate and attended. For our service project we partnered with the Gulfport Neighborhood Association for their monthly beach cleanup. We had a good group of students come, clean the beach, and then enjoyed some beach volleyball and spike-ball after the day was done. We also had a fundraiser to benefit the club this weekend. We sold tickets to the Tampa Bay Rays baseball game against the White Socks and the game was a blast! Although we lost 1-2 in extra innings, the game was high energy and fun.

Ballpark

This was my girlfriend’s first professional baseball game, so we went early to ensure we got the giveaway – a cool new Rays jersey. To top off the day, there was a giant thunderstorm brewing overhead (Tropicana Field is covered-not an open diamond) and you could feel the thunder shaking the stadium every few minutes, which is something I had never experienced before. All in all it was a fun time all for the benefit of our club!

Dr Strauss and Addison

This week I was also grateful to be a recipient of a scholarship offered by the Pinellas Park Medical District. This annual scholarship is awarded to students in health care that are highly involved in community service as well as showing an interest in local health care outreach initiatives. As a recipient I was invited to the Pinellas Park Chamber of Commerce Monthly Breakfast where I joined owners of local business and medical professionals from around the area while they discussed events and other developments that would impact the people of Pinellas Park.  It was pretty cool to see how many people come together to better this community! To even be considered for this award meant a lot to me, and I am eager to continue my involvement with the Pinellas Park, NUHS, and SPC communities.
