Mocks and Part II Boards

The last two weeks since my last post have been busy to say the least! To start off, we finally had our first mock patient encounters making use of the telehealth software. We were tasked with tracking down our own mock patients, but luckily my brother was able to help me out and play the role of a patient with neck pain.

Little Brother

However, in true younger brother fashion, he appeared on the telehealth call wearing a bug hat, mask, and flashing rings! He said his chief complaint was a bent antenna… I was pretty sure I did not learn how to fix that in school! After getting a good laugh out of my clinician and me, we finally got serious and dove into his case. The case went well, and I was able to learn the areas in which I needed to improve upon for telehealth care and how to handle wording history and “physical” exam questions. At this point, we have had two mock telehealth encounters, and it will certainly be interesting when we start working with actual patients, but I am excited to give it a try. That being said, in just one more short month we should be opening our clinic back up, and it will be really nice to get some hands-on experience again.

Just this last Sunday, I had my Part II National Board Exam. For the last couple of weeks, I have been studying very hard in addition to doing all of the online clinic requirements–it really was a lot of work. We drove down to Sarasota for our test bright and early on Sunday morning and I think that it went really well. I will find out in a month how I did!

After the test, and before heading home, a couple of my classmates and I swung by a local restaurant for brunch, and then went to one of my favorite places in Sarasota: Five-O Donut Co.

Twofer

This place has the most incredible spread of crazy donuts I have ever seen in my life, and I love stopping by whenever I am down in the area. This time, I tried their s’mores donut and it was incredibly sweet, but also amazing! A little while later, my girlfriend surprised me by making some awesome burgers at home to celebrate finally being done studying for a while! It ended up being a perfect ending to a crazy day. For now, I am looking forward to relaxing for the next two weeks or so before starting to study for the next board exam–the grind never stops!
